Its been a while.....

....since I posted, so I thought I would give you an update.

School is good, almost over!!! Wheeee!

Work (s) are good, looking forward to getting more hours when school is over.

Home is good, everyone is happy and getting along...most of the time :o)

Weight is not so good....229.5lbs. :o(

Exercise plan is getting better....did Matt Furey exercises last night...except for squats as my achilles tendon is still really sore.

Diet is slowly evolving into something healthy that I can live with..... :o)

Dad is not so good... :o( The doctor tells me that he will be in hospital for at least another month, and when he comes out he will probably need to be in a nursing home....

building my pell is on hold till I get some spare $$$ :o(

Well thats all for now....I will post tonight with my exercise updates.....

broke my glasses...... :o(

Harumph!!! Stepped on my glasses, and now they are being held together with dark blue duct tape in THREE places....the height of geek fashion I am sure......

Made some kick-butt minestrone soup today for the luncheon...one of the customers insisted on a recipe...I didn't follow a recipe but I gave him a list of ingredients.... just finished writing my purchasing test....I think I did well.

Going to do some cleaning and sorting and organizing of the house tonight, especially my sewing/project area. The armoring area also needs some attention.

I have been doing my arm and hand strengthening exercises every night before bed and that seems to help with the pain and swelling in my hands in the morning. I am doing my Matt Furey exercises when I get home from school.

thats all for now...going to meet Amy for coffee in about 15 minutes or so....

off to work....

....but I thought I would check in quickly.

Paul got called into work last night for Apex from 9pm till 2am. James and I went to Dave and Melinda's for a while, but no one else showed up and they decided to go out for a St. Pat's day drink, so James and I went home. I worked all day yesterday at the Cafe, and I work there today as well....

gotta go!

my 'ead 'urts!!!!

Happy March Break to all!!!

Guess where I went...??? To school of course!!! I am working on a project and need a book that cannot be taken from the college....thus....an afternoon spent in the hospitality office squinting at little numbers and abreviations for sirloin tips, half chickens and the like....and that is not even the fun part!!! Then I have to take these numbers and use them to cost out all the recipes for my project. For example, my recipe needs 4oz of diced carrots and I have a listing for a 25kg bag of carrots for $15.87, how much does the 4oz cost? Each ingredient has to be done this way. If the recipe calls for chicken stock, then I have to price out a whole different recipe....you guessed it! homemade chicken stock, no cans or powders here!! Anyways, I got called into work tommorrow at 9am! Yay! more hours, more money!

gotta go number crunch!!!

....and maybe take an Advil....

Fighter School: part two

Well now....back from the chiropractor...he says the sheath covering my achilles tendon is inflamed, and when he asked me to demonstrate my fighting stance he said it was most likely the fact that my achilles tendons are very tight and when I fight I stretch them rather forcefully and being rather tight they react by becoming inflamed, so if I work on stretching those tendons daily, then when I fight, they will be used to it and not become inflamed and painful. He also recommended icing the area.

Back to fighter school....after the classes they held several large melees. They divided us by region, East , West and Central (this is where Mare Am is) Each group had a commander and each commander had 4 cards...each card had one battle manouver on it, and our job was to become familiar with these manouvers. I fought in the right flanking group in two battles, the first I died really quickly without throwing a killing shot, the second, I did get in a good face thrust before the guy in front of me was killed and I was kind of pushed/launched over him. In the process, someone gave me a killing blow to the head and I also received a stout shot to the shin. I landed on my shield and as quickly as I could, rolled over and covered myself with my shield as the battle went on for quite a bit longer after that. At that point, my ankle was throbbing pretty badly and I decided to call it a day, so I went and took my armor off, packed it up and went downstairs to the locker room and attempted to have a shower.....it was more like a cold trickle of water, but it took some of the stank off of me! I changed into my garb and went back upstairs to hang out with Deirdre, Jamie and Lady Jondalara, who fed us cheese and crackers and grapes etc....Later on we sat in court and I nearly launched out of my seat when they called Deirdre up to become a member of the Order of the Crwth:
Given for proficiency in the performing arts (dance, bardic recitation, music, theater, etc.) I was one of the many who recommended her for the Order, so I was really thrilled!

I have to go and chat with Soly now!!!

Fighter School

It was a great weekend!

Getting there however....not so great! We hit a rather nasty snowstorm just before Eau Claire, WI that left us with visibility of only about 1 car length in front of us, we were stoppped in a loooooong line of traffic before a town called Red Granite, due to an accident. We waited just over an hour at almost a complete stand still before we were allowed to continue on the now glare ice coated highway. Things finally eased up after Oshkosh, WI and it wasn't too far from there to the site in Appleton. We stayed at the MicroTel...actually a very nice hotel, fairly inexpensive, with a hot tub!!! Three of us shared a room, Jaime, Josh(Hagen) and me. Kathy(Deirdre) and Alec(Svein) had thier own room, as did Sean(Funk).
The event was great! I armored up fairly quickly and got inspected. From there I went to Sir Aaron's class on Sword and Shield (as it is used in melee situations). There I learned that I have to be much more aware of what is going on around me and communicate to my line mates what I see happening so we can act accordingly . I learned how to do a "wedge" charge and how to "refuse" a charge from an opposing line. Soly showed me the correct way to hold my sword when in the shield wall and Sir Aaron recommended a shorter sword for this kind of engagement. There was about a half an hour break before the second class period. I sat with Soly and chatted with her while I taped up some sharp ends on my left elbow cop which had been digging in to me in the last class. The second class was with Sir Leif, it taught how to initiate a charge and how to receive a charge, and the difference between a pulse charge and other types of charges. It taught me not to try to hit an opposing shieldman head on, rather to aim for the break between the shields and slide on through. I also learned that sometimes it is prudent to part and let a charging opponent through and kill him on the way by or let your polearms take him and reform quickly. I was shown how a short woman (like me) can "refuse" a charge from a much bigger and stronger opponent and even be able to move him backwards due to a much lower center of gravity that a short female type (like me) has. The last class I took was Sub-commanding/ Line Sargenting with Lord Hagen. His Royal Highness Tarrach also attended and added imput. In this class I learned how to become a Line Sargent and what they do. I learned that Line Sargents are the "nervous system" of the army, being able to see what is going on even in a large force and report it back to the commander. The Line Sargent should also know the "big picture" or the "plan"but be prepared for sudden changes in that plan. It was stressed how important it was for a Line Sargent to not just look out for fighters on the field, but off the field as well, and at ressurection points ensuring that fighters get water and food, also praise for things they did right and constructive correction if they did something wrong. They are moral boosters (a lot of joking about being "cheerleaders" at that point in the class...LOL!) Over all I came away feeling like with a little more practice in melee fighting, I could do something like Line Sargent.
After the classes there was the large melee fights ......but I am going to have to continue later, as I have a chiropractor's appointment that I must go to now.....
